Ano Beach

  • Mr. Nobutaka Hirota

Ano used to be an isolated peninsula with no roads and a half-farming, half-fishing lifestyle. 50 years ago, when a tunnel was built, guesthouses began to open, and even today, 14 of the village's 18 households operate guesthouses. I am the third-generation owner of a minshuku located about a 30-second walk from the beach, and since we started raising blowfish about 30 years ago, our guests are treated to a course of blowfish while enjoying the view of the ocean. At dawn, the morning sun rises from the other side of the beach, so a morning walk along the sea is also recommended.
  • Food and Nature Experience for Children

Since about 12 or 13 years ago, Ano has been actively accepting educational tours. With the popularity of minshuku declining with the times, the minshuku of Ano, feeling a sense of crisis, came together to focus on educational tours. The Guest house Association operates a marine experience facility called "Blue Park Ano," where students can catch farm-raised sea bream from a fishing pond, which they prepare and eat themselves, and experience sea kayaking. Strangely enough, some of the children who have come here have been cured of their dislike of fish through this experience.
